This is unsmoked old briar. This pipe is at least 30 years maybe more. The Gasparini family started making pipes in the 30s had used natural processes for curing briar, never the rushed techniques commonly done. This is a budget line from the family, and it does have a flaw as pictured. It should still smoke well. It's a decent everyday pipe.
